JASMINE FOOD CORPORATION SDN BHD in reference to the recent malicious online rumours in Singapore about Fair Price NTUC’s house brand, Jasmine Fragrant Rice, that it is made of plastic, would like to make the following clarifications;

  • Malaysia is a net importer of rice and Jasmine Food Corporation Sdn Bhd is not allowed to export any rice product overseas, and the Company therefore does not sell any rice to Singapore or to NTUC of Singapore.
  • Jasmine Food Corporation reassures the public that all rice sold by the company are safe for consumption and are sourced directly from rice mills in Malaysia or imported directly by Padiberas National Berhad (BERNAS) from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Australia or USA.
  • The generic name of fragrant rice from Thailand is also known as “Jasmine Fragrant Rice” globally.
  • The brands of fragrant rice that are marketed by Jasmine Food Corporation Sdn Bhd in Malaysia are Sunwhite, Royal Siam, Pearl, Moly, SunRice andSeahorse.

The Straits Times of Singapore had on 02 February 2017 reported that Fair Price NTUC had filed a police report over the said online rumours and we strongly support the action taken by NTUC.
