A New Tribute on Jalan Kamunting in Conjunction with Merdeka and Hari Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR – In conjunction with Merdeka and Hari Malaysia, Jasmine Food is honoured to share the unveiling of a special mural dedicated to rice – the humble staple that has nourished Malaysian families for generations. More than an artwork, this mural is a celebration of our shared heritage and the role food plays in uniting people across cultures, traditions, and communities.
Situated along the historic Jalan Kamunting, the mural reflects the everyday story of Malaysians – from kampung kitchens to city tables – where rice has always been a symbol of comfort, care, and togetherness.
Created in collaboration with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), the project also supports efforts to revitalise Jalan Kamunting as a hidden food street and mural destination. The aim is not only to beautify the area but also to encourage Malaysians and visitors alike to discover the authentic flavours, stories, and artistry that make our nation unique.
To mark the occasion, Jasmine Food gave away of 1,000 packs of nasi lemak to visitors at the launch during Sunday’s KL car-free Morning. As Malaysia’s most iconic rice dish, nasi lemak embodies the spirit of sharing, reminding us that food has the power to bring people together.
In addition, Jasmine Food is organising a “Snap & Win” contest, running until December 2025. Malaysians are invited to capture and share their creative photos with the mural with the hashtag #NasiWarisanKita. The three most heartfelt entries will receive free premium rice – a small gesture to say thank you, and to share the goodness of food with more families.
This initiative reflects Jasmine Food’s ongoing commitment to celebrate Malaysia’s multicultural spirit while appreciating the simple traditions that bind us. As we remember our journey of independence and unity, may this mural stand as a gentle reminder that our diversity is our greatest strength, and that sharing a meal is one of the truest ways to feel connected as Malaysians.
We invite everyone to visit Jalan Kamunting – where heritage and creativity come together, and where every grain of rice tells a story of our beloved nation.
