White rice on its own does not directly cause diabetes. However, portion size and overall diet pattern matter. Enjoy rice in moderation, and pair it with protein, vegetables, and healthy fats for a more balanced meal. If you have diabetes, follow your healthcare professional’s advice.
Fun fact: Cooled and refrigerated cooked rice is healthier than freshly cooked rice as the starch will be less absorbed by body and reduce the blood glucose response in our body.
Rice weevils are common and generally not harmful. They can sometimes be present from the farm stage and can be removed by rinsing the rice.
The best way to keep rice fresh (for up to six months) is to keep it in the refrigerator. Otherwise, keep it away from heat and store in a cool dry place.
Fragrant rice contains natural aromatic compounds that produce a pleasant pandan-like smell when cooked. This aroma is naturally present in certain rice varieties and is one of the characteristics loved by consumers. No artificial fragrance or perfume is added. Jasmine Sunwhite rice is designed to retain its aroma even after cooking.
Cooked rice may become harder after cooling due to starch retrogradation, which is a natural process where the starch changes structure as the rice cools.
Quick tip: Reheating the rice can help restore its softness and texture.
The water ratio depends on the type of rice and personal preference.
Try this:
White rice: 1 cup rice : 1.5 cups water
Basmathi rice: 1 cup rice : 1.85 cups water
Japonica rice: 1 cup rice : 1.3 cups water
Fragrant rice: 1 cup rice : 1.2 cups water
Brown rice: 1 cup rice : 2 cups water
Glutinous rice: 1 cup rice : 1.3 cups water
Pigmented rice (Black rice / Red rice): 1 cup rice : 2 cups water
Aged rice: 1 cup rice : 1.7 cups water
Tip: For rice cookers, start with these ratios and adjust slightly based on your preferred texture.

Avoid condensed water from the rice cooker lid dripping onto the cooked rice
Avoid leaving cooked rice uncovered
Store excess cooked rice in the refrigerator
Ensure the rice cooker is clean and dry before use
Recommended consumption time: Best consume within 4 hours.

Rice weevils may naturally exist from the paddy harvesting process, where tiny eggs are carried together with the grains. Even with proper storage, the eggs may hatch over time due to temperature and humidity. This is common and does not necessarily indicate poor quality.
